About us . .

Ngala Lodge situated in a former ambassador’s residence located between the British High Commission and the Medical Research Counsel in Bakau/Fakara

We are small, intimate hotel which is very popular with Couples and we have many recurring guests what means that early booking is recommended.

As a child-free hotel, the tropical gardens remain peaceful throughout the day with ample space to find your own secluded spot. It’s a fantastic choice for a romantic break and with the best restaurants in The Gambia; you’ll find it hard to leave.

For an extra special occasion we can offer besides our luxury standard suites a variety of extra upgraded suites including a penthouse with its private rooftop terrace with shower and skylight above the bed. The Manor encompasses four spacious 1-bedroom suites with sea views, and has its own gardens adjacent to the main Lodge with shared Jacuzzi. The Atlantic Suites are the most stunning rooms in The Gambia and each has its own private Jacuzzi on the balcony or terrace. In total there are eighteen suites, all facing the ocean; all are air-conditioned and have fans and mosquito nets.

Within the grounds there are a number of sunbathing terraces, seating areas and traditional African Bantabas (meeting places), which provide private hideaways for guests to enjoy a relaxing drink and a quiet book. The attractive gardens ensure a high degree of privacy with only a small number of guests in residence at any one time and make the most of the enviable location of The Gambia, which enjoys a magnificent setting with stunning views looking out from its cliff-top position towards the ocean. There is also a swimming pool and small beach which can be reached at low tide via steep steps – a great spot for fishing.

In the evening, the elevated restaurant not only serves excellent food with daily specials created by our English chef, Jonathan Groves, but we also have wonderful views of the ocean at sunset. Beside the daily changing culinary SPECIALS, is a la carte dining available with an extensive menu is also available. Most of the evenings there is a low key entertainment, along with a weekly African night with dancers, create an inviting atmosphere.

Due to the quality of food and wines on offer, a high proportion of our guest choose to stay on a half board basis, with the option to upgrade to eat à la carte for a supplement.
Ngala Lodge & Restaurant has a well-established reputation with the public for high standards in service and cuisine with many expatriates and local dignities choosing to dine with us.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere at Ngala Lodge is extremely relaxed and friendly with very individual service; to help you unwind you can enjoy a massage or manicure in your suite or choose to have breakfast on your private balcony or terrace - nothing is too much trouble..

There are no TV’s in the Suites to guaranty you r time undisturbed together.
But you will not miss your favoured match or the news in our Bataba where we have a satellite TV for you. Here we can serve you your favoured drink or snack as well.

I have created a tranquil atmosphere in stunning surroundings. The lush tropical gardens are frequently visited by rare and colourful birds, and the waves lap the sandy shore below.

Art has always been my passion, and you will discover numerous examples of local sculptures and paintings in your suite, the gardens, buildings and restaurant. Indeed, you can acquire your own piece of art from one of our local and international painters and sculptors located in the, gardens and suites.

Many evenings live music is played in the bar, occasionally accompanied by international guests who join our musicians in a swinging jam session.
